About LUCTO
Community-based conservation on the Rwenzori
LUCTO works with local communities around the Rwenzori Mountains in Kasese / Bwera, Uganda to promote conservation, sustainable tourism, and socio-economic development.
We focus on tree planting, bamboo nurseries, beekeeping, skills training for youth and women, and cultural tourism that celebrates Bakonzo heritage while protecting the fragile mountain ecosystem.

Tree planting, bamboo nurseries, riverbank restoration, and climate action. We restore degraded land and promote indigenous species.

Beekeeping (36 hives and growing), youth and women empowerment, skills training in sustainable agriculture and enterprise.

Rwenzori trekking (3.5km gorilla trail), cultural tours, nature walks, bird watching, and community homestays.

Promotion of Bakonzo culture, traditional dances, crafts, storytelling, and rituals at sacred sites like Erihongero.

Rwenzori Trekking
The Rwenzori Mountains, often called the "Mountains of the Moon," are one of Africa's most spectacular mountain ranges. Stretching along the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, these ancient peaks rise dramatically from the surrounding plains, reaching heights of over 5,000 meters. With their snow-capped summits, dense rainforests, bamboo zones, and alpine meadows, the Rwenzoris offer a trekking experience unlike any other in Africa.
